About Valley & Tin
Who Runs This
Valley & Tin started in 2017 when we decided to stop guessing about our own roof and actually learn what we were looking at. We're homeowners like you—not contractors, not salespeople. Over the years, we've documented projects, tracked what worked and what cost way more than expected, and figured out which contractors genuinely know their trade from the ones who just talk a good game.
The name itself is rooted in roofing vocabulary: the valley is where two roof slopes meet, and tin is what we call corrugated metal. But this site isn't about becoming a roofer. It's about the home as a system, the decisions that matter, and being confident enough in your research that you can talk to professionals on equal footing.
Something We Changed Our Mind About
We used to think that the cheapest estimate was the best deal. We learned fast that cutting corners on installation costs you twice as much in repairs later.
The Record So Far
Since 2017, we've catalogued projects across foundation repair, roofing, guttering, and ventilation.
We've tracked which contractors returned calls on time and which ones explained the work in a way that made sense.
We've documented the ones we'd hire again and the ones we wouldn't—because real research means being honest about who doesn't make the cut.
Our recommendation for Talbot Roofing comes from that same careful process: we hired them, we watched the work, and it met the standard we'd set for ourselves.
